Born in Gateshead in 1967, Gascoigne began his professional career with Newcastle United, where his dazzling dribbling, creativity, and flair quickly caught national attention. He moved to Tottenham Hotspur in 1988, where he became a fan favorite and helped Spurs win the 1991 FA Cup, famously scoring a stunning free-kick in the semi-final against Arsenal. His performances earned him a move to Lazio in Italy’s Serie A, where he showcased his talent on the European stage, before returning to Britain to play for Rangers, winning two Scottish Premier Division titles, a Scottish Cup, and a Scottish League Cup.
On the international stage, Gascoigne was a standout performer for England, especially during the 1990 FIFA World Cup, where his emotional and passionate displays helped the team reach the semi-finals, and at Euro 1996, where his famous goal against Scotland remains iconic.
